what are symptoms of depression?
A
- psychomotor agitation or retardation, insomnia/hypersomnia, decreased libido
- feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
- decreased concentration
- change in wt or appetite
- depressed mood
- anhedonia (inability to experience pleasure)
- thoughts of suicide or death

what are co-morbid diagnosis of MDD?
A
diabetes, HD, autoimmune disorders, pain

sub classifications of depression (used to Dx):
A
- Catatonia
- atypical features
- melancholic features
- seasonal pattern
- mixed features
- anxious distress
- mood (congruent or incongruent feature)
- peripartum onset

what are other depressive disorders?
A
- substance/meds induced DD
- DD due to medical condition
- disruptive mood dysregulation disorder
- premenstrual dysphoric disorder
- unspecified/specified DD

what are the two main DD’s?
A
MDD and dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder)

how does dysthymia differ from MDD?
A
symptoms are less intense, occur for most the day, more days then not and last for at least 2 years

what is required to diagnose depression?
A
5 or more symptoms must be present during the same 2 week period and represent a change from previous functioning - at least 1 of the symptoms is either 1) depressed mood or 2) anhedonia (loss of interest or pleasure
