Obesity facts Flashcards
obesity def.
BMI >30 kg/m^2
NPY/AgRP neurons
Orexigenic neurons in hypothalamus, triggers feeding and decreases energy output
POMC/CART neurons
anorexigenic neurons in hypothalamus, inhibit feeding and increases energy expenditure
Positive feeding factors
Ghrelin, opioids, NPY, orexin
negative feeding factors
Leptin, GLP-1, insulin, 5-HT
Classification of obesity med
statistically significant placebo adjusted >5% loss in 1 year, or >35% lose >5% and double placebo
GLP-1R receptor
in the hypothalamus Gs GCPR increasing cAMP and reducing feeding intake reducing adipose tissue
5-HT2c receptor obesity
Increases POMC expression in hypothalamus to increase satiety signals
GIP receptor
unknown how this effects obesity and it’s effects but shown to help either being agonized or antagonistic
Glucagon receptor
Acted on by newer agents to increase base energy use to help burn fat
