Lesson 6C (Part 7) Flashcards
What is each teste suspended by?
The spermatic cord
Where are the spermatic cords located?
At the inferior border of the teste at the tail of the epididymis and extends superiorly to the inguinal canal
What does the spermatic cord hold/transport? (6)
- Testicular artery
- Spermatic veins/venous plexus
- Cremasteris muscles
- Vas deferens
- Nerves and lymph vessels
- Connective tissue
What muscle retracts and extends the testes?
The cremasteris muscle
What is the cremasteris muscle controlled by?
Temperature
Vas deferens
Thick walled muscular tube
What is the ductus deferens continuous with?
The epididymis
What is the path of the vas deferens? (8)
- Passes within the spermatic cord
- Crosses through the inguinal canal
- Crosses over the external iliac vessels
- Descends retroperitoneally along the lateral wall of the pelvis
- Continues to descend along the posterior aspect of the bladder
- Joins with the duct from the seminal vesicles
- forms the ejaculatory duct - Then opens into the prostatic urethra
- The moves out through the penial urethra
Seminal vesicles
Paired accessory glands that consist of coiled tubes
Where are the seminal vesicles located?
Between the bladder and the rectum
What does the seminal vesicle duct join up with?
The vas deferens
What does the seminal vesicle duct and the ductus deferens duct create?
The ejaculatory duct
What does the secretion from the ejaculatory duct contain?
A high fructose content that provides an energy source for sperm
What gets mixed in the ejaculatory duct? (2)
- Sperm
2. Serous fluid
What is the largest accessory gland in the male reproductive system?
The prostate gland
