Lesson 6C (Part 2) Flashcards
How long is the male urethra?
5x the length of the females urethra
Where does the male urethra extend from?
The internal urethral orifice to the external urethral orifice at the tip of the glans penis
What are the 3 regions of the male urethra?
- Prostatic urethra
- Membranous urethra
- Penile (spongy) urethra
Where does the prostatic urethra pass through?
The prostate gland
What structure opens into the prostatic urethra?
The ejaculatory duct from the prostate gland
What is the shortest and narrowest portion of the urethra?
The membranous urethra
Where does the membranous urethra pass through?
The urogenital diaphragm to enter the penis
What is the longest part of the urethra?
The penile (spongy) urethra
Where does the penile urethra extend from?
Extends the full length of the corpus spongiosum of the penis
What structure opens into the spongy urethra at the proximal region?
The ducts of the bulbourethral glands
What is the order (proximal to distal) of the male urethra portions?
Prostatic urethra –> membranous urethra –> penile (spongy) urethra
What is the inner portion of the penis?
The spongy urethra
What does the spongy tissue in the penis allow?
Things to pass through
- eg) urine, semen, etc
Where is the trigone?
It is the area of the bladder formed between the openings for 2 ureters and one opening for the internal urethral orifice
How many openings are there in the trigone?
3
- 2 for the ureters
- 1 for the internal urethral orifice
What area is the most sensitive spot for pain in the males?
The trigone
What organ is between the bladder and the pelvic floor in males?
The prostate
What are 4 female reproductive organs?
- Ovaries
- Ovarian tubes
- Uterus
- Vagina
What are 2 other names for ovarian tubes?
- Fallopian tubes
2. Uterine tubes
Perironeal ligaments
Double folds of peritoneum that hold the reproductive organs in place
What are the ligaments for the uterus? (6)
- Broad ligament
- Round ligament
- Uterosacral ligament
- Lateral cervical ligament
- cardinal - Anterior ligament
- vesticouterine pouch - Posterior ligament
- pouch of douglas/rectouterine pouch
What does the broad ligament hold? (2)
- Uterus
2. Ovaries
ACDS
Anterior cul de sac
What is ACDS also known as?
Vesicouterine pouch
PCDS
Posterior cul de sac
What is PCDS also known as? (2)
- Pouch of douglas
2. Rectouterine pouch
What are 3 ligaments in the ovaries?
- Mesovarium
- Ovarian ligament
- Suspensory ligament
What do peritoneal ligaments have?
A serous membrane
- 2 layers
What do peritoneal ligaments do?
They hold organs in place and give them room to move
