Lesson 2B (Part 4) Flashcards
What do hepatic veins drain?
The liver
What makes up the left, middle and right hepatic veins?
The merging of the central veins
Where do the hepatic veins exit?
From the posterior surface of the liver
Where do the hepatic veins empty?
Directly into the IVC
What does the hepatic portal system drain? (3)
All of the nutrient rich blood from the…
- Stomach
- Pancreas
- Spleen
Where does the hepatic portal system deliver the blood? Through what? (2)
- To the liver to be processed
2. Via the portal vein
What must all blood from the digestive system do before entering the IVC?
Pass through the liver
What is the path of blood starting from the IMV to the IVC? (7)
- IMA carries the blood to the splenic vein
- The splenic vein with the SMV take the blood to the hepatic portal vein
- The hepatic portal vein take it to the left and right portal veins
- The left and right portal veins carry it a continual branch systems and then the sinusoids in the liver lobule
- Then travels to the central veins of the sinusoids
- From the central veins it go to the hepatic veins
- From the hepatic veins it goes to the IVC
What do portal veins contain?
Nutrient rich blood
- from the food we have eaten
What forms the portal vein? (2)
- Splenic veins
2. SMV
What does the liver do to the blood that just entered it?
Cleans it before it gets distributes to the rest of the body
What type of blood do veins carry?
Deoxygenated blood
What gets produced as blood gets filtered in the liver?
Bile
Where does the bile go once its produced?
To the bile duct
- gets stored
When blood is high in nutrients, what happens to the oxygen?
Oxygen poor
