Lesson 2B (Part 3) Flashcards
What 2 veins join and make the IVC?
Right and left common iliac veins
What does the IVC receive as is ascends through the abdomen along the vertebral column?
Tributaries
Where is the IVC located? (3)
- Posterior to the liver
- Lateral to the aorta (right)
- Passes through the diaphragm
- T8
- drains in the lower part of the right atrium
What kind of structure is the IVC?
Retroperitoneal
What is the IVC anterior to? (3)
- Right psoas muscle
- Right renal artery
- Right suprarenal gland
What is the IVC posterior to? (3)
- SMA
- Pancreatic head
- Horizontal part of the duodenum
What dumps into the left renal artery? (2)
- Left suprarenal vein
2. Left gonadal vein
Why is the left renal vein larger than the right renal vein?
Because it is receiving more blood
Why is the left renal vein longer than the right renal vein?
The heart is on the left so it has to go around the heart
What 2 veins join to form the common iliac vein?
- External iliac vein
2. Internal iliac vien
What is the common iliac vein anterior to?
Sacroiliac joint
What do the common iliac veins drain?
The regions supplied by the arteries of the same name
Where do the common iliac veins pass?
Obliquely upwards from the SI joint to L5 where they join and form the IVC
Lumbar veins
4-5 pairs of vessels that collect blood from the muscles and skin of the posterior abdominal wall
Where do the gonadal veins ascend from?
The dorsal teste through spermatic cord into the abdomen
