Lesson 1A (Part 3) Flashcards
Cavity membranes
This sheets of tissue that line the cavities and organs within
What are the 2 types of cavity membranes?
- Connective tissue membranes
2. Epithelial membranes
What are 2 types of connective tissue membranes?
- Meninges
2. Synovial membranes
What are 3 types of epithelial membranes?
- Cutaneous membranes
- Mucous membranes
- Serous membranes
- serosa
What are 3 types of meninges?
- Dura mater
- Arachnoid mater
- Pia mater
What are 2 layers of serous membranes?
- Parietal layer
2. Visceral layer
What do meninges cover? (2)
- Brain
2. Spinal cord
What do synovial membranes cover?
Lines joint cavities
What is the top layer of meninges?
Dura mater
What is the middle layer of meninges?
Arachnoid mater
What is the bottom layer of meninges?
Pia mater
Mucous membranes
Line all the body cavities that are open to the exterior
- moist membrane
What are 4 examples of the mucous membrane?
- Respiratory
- Digestive
- Urinary
- Reproductive
Serous membranes
Line cavities that are closed to the exterior
What are 3 examples of serous membranes?
- Pleural
- lines the lungs - Pericardial
- lines the heart - Peritoneal
- lines the abdominal cavities (and bowel)
What does the mucous membrane do?
Serves as protection
- keeps things wet so it wont stick
What does the serous membrane do?
Secretes a serous fluid that acts like a lubricant so things can move
- reduces friction
How many layers are there in the serous membranes?
2
- outer and inner layer
What are the name of the layers in the serous membrane? (2)
- Visceral pleura
2. Parietal pleura
What does the visceral pleura line?
The organs
What does the parietal pleura line?
The cavity walls
