Lesson 3B (Part 1) Flashcards
Where is the liver located?
In the right hypochondria region and extends medially through the epigastric region and just touches the left hypochondriac region and a little bit in the right lumber region
How does the liver change as it goes more to the left
It also goes more anteriorly
What is the superior and anterior surface boundary of the liver?
Diaphragm
- it follows the contour of the dome
What is the posterior boundary of the liver? (2)
- Snugs up against the bony lumbar region
2. Posterior muscular abdominal wall
Where does the convex superior aspect of the liver bulge?
Upwards and more on the right side than the left
Inferior/visceral surface of the liver
Is flatter than the superior surface and has multiple depressions where it is in contact with other organs
What angle does the inferior surface of the liver sit so that the inferior portions are anteriorly situated and the superior potion are posterior situated?
45 deg
What is the liver largely covered by?
Peritoneum of the greater sac
What is special about the bare area on the liver? (2)
- It is where it attaches to the diaphragm
2. On the posterior surface it is not covered in peritoneum
What is the diaphragmatic surface of the liver? (2)
- Smooth
2. Convex
What does the liver conform to?
The cavity of the inferior surface of the diaphragm
What is the diaphragmatic surface of the liver separated from?
The diaphragm by subphrenic recess
Subphrenic recess
Peritoneal space that separates the superior surface of the liver from the inferior surface of the diaphragm
What is the superior part of the liver covered by?
Peritoneum except the bare area
Which kidney is affiliated with the liver?
The right kidney
Recesses
Are potential spaces in the peritoneum that are not filled with fluid under normal conditions
What are 2 examples of recesses?
- Left and right subphrenic recess
2. Hepatorenal recess
Subhepatic space
Inferior to the anterior half of the visceral surface of the liver
Hepatorenal recess
Is located between the posterior half of the visceral surface of the liver and the anterosuperior border of the right kidney
What is another word for hepatorenal recess?
Morisons pouch
Which surface of the liver has multiple depressions on it?
Visceral
- inferior
Where does the inferior surface of the liver rest on?
The upper abdominal organs
What is the shape of the inferior surface of the liver? (3)
- Uneven
- Concave
- Many indentations
What degree does the liver sit on?
45 deg
Which part of the liver is more inferior?
The anterior portion
What part of the liver is more superior?
Posterior
What are 5 surface indentations on the right side of the liver?
- Hepatic flexure
- colon - Right kidney
- Adrenal gland
- Duodenum
- Gallbladder
What are 2 surface indentations on the left side of the liver?
- Gastric
- stomach - Esophageal
What is a surface indentation on the posterior side of the liver?
A groove for the IVC
