Histology Intro Flashcards

1
Q

Requirements to use light microscopy

A
  1. Preserved in a life-like state
  2. Transparent so light can pass
  3. Thin and flat
  4. Components should be differentially stained so they can be distinguished.

Q

Basophilic Stains

A

Dye reacts with acidic (anionic) components of cells

Nucleic acids (acidic) bind to basic dye

Nuclei, RER, DNA, RNA, extracellular matrix, blue to purple.

Q

Acidophilic stains

A

Dyes react with basic (cationic) components of cells

Proteins (cytoplasm) are basic and bind to acidic dye

Cytoplasm, collagen, mitochondria, lysosome, muscle, colloid, red blood cells,
