ECGs Flashcards
What is a regular heart rhythm called?
Sinus rhythm
What is the instantaneous heart rate?
Distance between consecutive R waves
What is a regularly irregular heart rhythm called?
Sinus arrhythmia
What is an irregularly irregular heart rhythm called?
Atrial fibrillation
What is a 1st degree AV block?
All P waves conducted but increased PR interval (delayed QRS complex)
What is a 2nd degree AV block?
Not all P waves conducted
What are the two types of 2st degree AV block?
Type I – progressive increase in PR intervals
followed by a dropped QRS drop
Type II – Fixed PR interval followed by a dropped QRS
What is a 3rd degree AV block?
No P waves conducted
P waves present but P and QRS are independent of each other
QRS look normal
What does a ventricular premature complex look like?
Look wide and bizarre - dont use the specialised conduction system, goes cell to cell, slower
No P waves
What does a supraventricular premature complex look like?
Look like the normal sinus complex but more soon after - narrow
What is the name for more than 3 ventricular premature complexes in a row?
Ventricular tachycardia
What is atrial fibrillation like on an ECG?
Irregular supraventricular rhythm
No P waves
