Chap 15- Adaptive Immunity Types & Vaccinations Flashcards
Natural Acquired Active Immunity
standard response to infection; production of antibodies from natural exposure to antigen
Artificially Acquired Active Immunity
injection of Ag (antigen/ vaccination); production of antibodies as result of vaccine; induced
Naturally Acquired Passive Immunity
immunity resulting from antibodies produced from another person (mama to fetus); via transplancental or colostrum (milk)
Artificially Acquired Passive Immunity
Injection of Ab (antibody); we’re “passed”/ “given” antibody/ immune response
vaccine that uses DNA injection & results in the production of the encoded protein antigen; stimulates humoral and cellular immunity
Nucleic Acid (DNA) vaccine
vaccine that uses live weakened microbes; most closely mimic actual infection; provides life long immunity;
Attenuated whole agent vaccine (MMR, polio vaccines)
vaccine that Uses microbes that have been killed
Inactivated whole agent vaccines
vaccine that uses inactivated toxins
Toxoids vaccine
vaccine type that uses fragment of a microbe that can best stimulate an immune response; safer bc they cannot reproduce in recipient
Subunit Vaccines
vaccine that is Based on capsular polysaccharides; often combined with proteins to improve response
Conjugated Vaccines
chemical additive used to improve effectiveness of vaccine
adjuvant
