To provide a prioritized list outlining several expected results of the job.
What are examples of questions used in a job analysis to define the basic purpose of a position?
“Why does this position exist?” and “What are the most important responsibilities of your position?”
What questions address the physical aspects of a job during analysis?
“What are the physical surroundings and/or hazards of your position?” and “Describe the mental and physical efforts required for your work.”
Why is it important to identify the knowledge and basic skills needed for a job?
To ensure that the person in the position can successfully fulfill the responsibilities.
What is “job inflation”?
When employees exaggerate the importance or difficulty of their job, often to gain a higher pay level or recognition.
Why might employees feel compelled to inflate their job descriptions?
Due to fears that standards of performance may change or that employers will expect more work based on the analysis.
How can managers ensure job information is accurate if there are differing perspectives?
By verifying the job information and maintaining open communication with employees.
