- Pregnancy
- GI problems, Coronary disease, respiratory dysfunction, renal or hepatic disease, alcoholism, or hyperthyroidism

Adverse effects
A
- Related to theophylline levels in the blood
- GI upset, irritability, tachycardia, hyperglycemia, seizures, brain damage, and even death

Drug-drug interactions
A
- Any drug metabolized in the liver has the potential to interact with xanthines
- Substances in cigarettes

- History: allergy, smoking/cigarette use, gastric, heart, repsiratory, liver or kideny issues, pregnancy and lactation
- Physical: VS, ECG, labs: liver and renal fx, theophylline levels
