Indications
A
- Decrease in plasma cholesterol levels in primary hypercholesterolemia
- Pruritis associated with partial biliary obstruction

Contraindications
A
- Allergy
- Complete biliary obstruction/abnormal intestinal function
- Pregnancy and lactation

Adverse drug effects
A
- CNS: Headache, anxiety, fatigue, and drowsiness
- Direct GI irritation: Nausea, constipation
- Vitamin A,D,E,K deficiencies: Increased bleeding times

Drug-Drug interactions
A
- Malabsorption of fat-soluble vitamins
- Affect absorption of other drugs

- History: Allergy, pregnancy/lactation, impaired intestinal fx or obstruction
- Physical: skin, CNS, GI system, vitals, weight
- Labs: cholesterol, lipid levels, clotting factors

Implementation
A
- Tablets cannot be cut or crushed
- Give drug BEFORE meals
- Administer other PO drugs 1 hr before or 4-6 hours after
- Arranged bowel program
- Comfort and safety measures for adverse effects
- Provide pt teaching
