A
- Propionic Acids: Ibuprofen, Naproxen
- Acetic Acids: Indomethacin, Ketolorac
- Opium derivatives: Meloxicam
- Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors: Celecoxib

Actions
A
- Block two enzymes, known as COX-1 and COX-2
- Provide a strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect
- Anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, and anti-analgesic

Contraindications
A
- Allergy to any NSAID or salicylate, and celecoxib is also contraindicated in the presence of allergy to sulfonamides
- CV dysfunction or HTN, peptic ulcer, GI bleed, pregnancy/lactation

Cautions
A
-Renal or hepatic dysfunction

Adverse effects
A
-Nausea, dyspepsia, GI pain, constipation, diarrhea, or flatulence caused by direct GI effects, GI bleed, dizziness, somnolence, platelet inhibition, HTN, and even bone marrow depression

Drug-Drug
A
- Decreased diuretic effect when these are taken with loop diuretics
- Decreased antihypertensive effects of beta-blockers
- Reports of lithium toxicity when combined with ibuprofen

Assessment
A
- History: allergy, contraindications or cautions
- Physical: skin lesions, VS, orientation and reflexes, perfusion, respirations and sounds, liver evaluation
