What is the circulatory system made up of?
heart, blood, blood vessels
What happen is the first circuit?
The heart pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs, the blood picks up oxygen in the lungs
What does the oxygenated blood do?
Returns to the heart
What happens in the second circuit?
The heart pumps oxygenated blood around all the other organs of the body, delivers oxygen to the body cells
Where does the deoxygenated blood go?
Blood returns to the heart to be pumped out to the lungs again
What do the valves do?
Stops the blood from flowing backwards
What does the heart need?
It’s own supply of oxygenated blood
Where does the heart get this blood?
It get’s it from the coronary arteries, these branch off the aorta and surround the heart
What is your heart rate controlled by?
A group of cells in the right atrium wall
What do these cells act as?
A pacemaker they tell the heart when to pump blood
What happens if the pacemaker does not work properly?
It causes an irregular heartbeat, an artificial pacemaker can be used to keep the heart beating regularly
