Sensorimotor stage

A

0-2 years)- focus on physical sensation and developing coordination: example: learning that they can control their hand to hold things- object permanence- find games like peek a boo entertaining, which is because they don’t understand that an object still exists if out of sight

Pre operational stage

A

2-7 years- use language but lacks reasoning, might think logically but in a way that might not make sense- they do not understand conservation and can’t see the world from others point of views- egocentric

Concrete operational stage

A

7-11-start to conserve more and are better at egocentric tasks and have better reasoning abilities- still struggle to reason abstract ideas- example the 4 cards game only children above 11 could handle this because they could think abstractly even things presented in a concrete form

Formal operational stage

A

11 + years- become capable of formal reasoning- become able to focus of the form of the argument and not get distracted e.g: All yellow cats have two heads? I have a yellow cat called Charlie- Two- younger children got distracted an that cat’s don’t really have two heads
