IV characteristic practical Flashcards
What is the equipment list of this practical ?
ammeter, milliammeter, voltmeter, filament lamp, resistor, diode and protected resistor, variable resistor, variable power supply, connecting leads
What is the first step to this practical ?
Construct the circuit shown in the diagram
What is the second step for this practical ?
Set up variable power supply or variable resistor to the lowest potential difference
What is the third step for this practical ?
Record current and voltage over the resistor
What is the fourth step to this practical ?
Increase current from power supply to 2V and repeat your readings
What is the 5th step for this practical ?
Change the resistor to a filament lamp and repeat this experiment
What is the 6th step for this practical ?
Change the filament to a diode and a protective resistor (to restrict high currents flowing through the diode) ensuring the diode is the correct direction to allow the flow of current through. Change the ammeter to a milliammeter, since the current measured will be smaller than the other components
Last step of the practical ?
Draw a graph of current against potential difference for each component
What results will we expect to find from this practical ?
We find out that the resistor could be ohmic, filament lamp and the diode are non ohmic conductors
