Physics flashcards pt2
Braking distance
Distance travelled by a vehicle during the time it takes for the brakes to act
Conservation of momentum
In a closed system total momentum before an event is the same after an event. It is conserved within any collision, No external forces act on the object that collide or explode.
Directly proportional
A graph will show if the line of best fit is straight through the origin
Elastic
If something is managing to maintain itβs shape go back to itβs original shape if a force has been applied
Extension
Increase length of a spring
Inertia
The tendency of an object to stay at rest or continue uniform motion
Limit of proportionality
Limit of the extension of a spring
Mass
Quantity of matter in an object
Newtons second law
The acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force of an object, inversely proportional to the mass of an object
Stopping distance
The distance travelled by the vehicle in the time it takes for the vehicle to brake
Terminal velocity
Velocity reached of an object when the drag force on it is equal and opposite to the force making it move
Thinking distance
Distance travelled by a vehicle in the time it takes the driver to react
Weight
The force of gravity on an object
Acceleration
Change of velocity per second
Deacceleration
Change of velocity per second when an object slows down
