Self-Concept
A
- Our awareness of ourselves as distinct from others
- self-concept goes
beyond self-schemata; it also includes our appraisal of who we used to be and who we will become.

A
- The ways in which we define ourselves, a self-given label that
carries with it a set of qualities
-Ex. “athlete self-schema”

A
The individual components of our self-concept related to the groups to which we belong.

Hierarchy of salience
A
- we let the situation dictate which identity holds the most importance for us at any given moment
- Salience is determined by a number of factors, including
the amount of work we have invested into the identity, the rewards and gratification associated with the identity, and the amount of self-esteem we have associated with the identity.

Self-discrepancy theory
A
- each of us has three selves
- Actual Self: self-concept
- Ideal Self: person we
would like to be - Ought self: representation of the way others think we should be
- Closer they are to one another, the higher self-esteem, lower the self-esteem the more critical of themselves

refers to the way we characterize the influences in
