Weakness of movement
Pain in shoulder
What are some clinical signs of rotator cuff tear?
Muscle wastage (Possible)
Tenderness sub deltoid region
Restricted active movement but normal passive movement
What are some investigations used in rotator cuff tear?
X-ray (1st line)
USS (Good ROM)
MRI (Poor ROM)
How are acute cuff tears usually managed?
Rest
Analgesia
Sling
Physiotherapy
How are chronic rotator cuff tears managed?
Physiotherapy
Steroid injection
Monitoring
What surgical interventions can be used in rotator cuff tear?
Arthroscopic or open repair
Describe the rehabilitation pathway of rotator cuff tear
- 6 weeks sling
- 8-10 weeks no driving
- 12 weeks no heavy lifting
- Prolonged physiotherapy
- Prolonged recovery (6-9 months)
