Acute trauma
Microtrauma
How will hallux rigidus present?
1st MTP joint pain
Loss of motion
Dorso-medial parasthesia
Transfer metatarsalgia
What are some clinical signs of hallux rigidus?
Bone spurs
IPJ hyper-extension
What investigations are required in hallux rigidus?
X-ray showing AP, lateral and oblique views
What are some non-operative management strategies used in hallux rigidus?
NSAIDs
Activity modification
Intra-articular injections
Orthotics
What are some surgical management strategies used in hallux rigidus?
Cheilectomy
Fusion (Loss of movement prevents pain)
Replacement
