What is plantar fasciitis?
A
inflammation of the plantar aponeurosis at its origin on the calcaneus

What are some causes of plantar fasciitis?
A
- Physical overload - Excessive exercise
- Seronegative arthropathy
- Abnormal foot shape
- Improper footware
- Diabetes

How will plantar fasciitis present?
A
This is often described as a pain worse after rest, however, it can also be worse after vigorous exercise
This can also cause swelling at the plantarmedial aspect of the heel

What clinical test can be used to test for plantar fasciitis?
A
Tinnel’s test for Baxter’s nerve

How long will plantar fasciitis take to resolve?
A
It is usually self-limiting over 18-24 months

How can plantar fasciitis be managed?
A
- NSAIDs
- Night splints
- Taping
- Heel cups or medial arch supports
- Physiotherapy
- Steroid injection
