Psyc 428 test 5 Flashcards
4 parts of imitation you need and don’t need
- Physical movement (don’t need b/c it’s self evident)
- Immediacy (don’t need because no objective definition of immediate)
- Formal similarity- response products are the same (need)
- Controlling varaible between SD and response (need)
Response products
The stimuli that a behavior produces.
For example: clapping produces a sound and a visual.
Why is there no such thing as generalized imitation
Once a behavior becomes to complex it is impossible to imitate.
Generalized trying
Due to incentive (MO) person will try to imitate the model. L
Shaping
Differential reinforcement of successive approximations to a terminal behavior.
Use of extinction an reinforcement
Shaping limitations and which one is the only true imitation
- Time consuming (only true limitation)
- Non-linear
- Consistently monitoring the behavior you’re shaping
- Can be misapplied
- Shape harmful Bx
2-5 ate limitation to every principle or of human Bx.
Why is pain onset not an SD
It has not been related to the differential availability of pain offset.
Why is DRO not a R procedure.
Because it doesn’t increase similar responses under similar conditions.
How is differential reinforcement related to shaping
You are reinforcing behaviors that share a predetermined dimension and not reinforcing behaviors that do not share that quality.
How is response differentiation related to shaping
After differential reinforcement is used its dual effects result in a new response class. This is response differentiation
Behavior chain
A specific sequence of discrete responses each associated with a particular stimulus condition
Task analysis
Breaking a complex skill into smaller teachable units.
- Observe competent individuals
- Consult with experts or people skilled in the task
- Perform behaviors on oneself
What FBA enable
Enables hypotheses.
- Play (control)
- Contingent attention
- Contingent escape
- Alone
Two points related to topography and function
Two different topographies can have the same function an two of the same topographies can have different functions.
