Cooper Ch 24 FBA Flashcards
enable hypotheses about the relations among specific types of environmental events and behaviors
What an FBA enables
The three FBA methods and which one allows practitioners to confirm hypothesis.
Functional (Experimental) Analysis:
o The only one that confirms hypotheses regarding functional relations
2. Descriptive Functional Behavior Assessment:
3. Indirect Functional Behavior Assessment:
o Antecedents and consequences representing those in the person’s natural environment (but not actually in) are arranged so that their separate effects on problem behavior can be observed and measured
Functional (experimental) analysis
Often referred to as analog
This encompasses direct observation of behavior.
Descriptive functional behavior assessment.
• Methods that use structured interviews, checklists, rating scales, or questionnaires to obtain information from persons who are familiar with the person exhibiting the problem behavior (e.g., teachers, parents, etc), to identify possible conditions or events in the natural environment that correlate with the problem behavior.
What indirect functional assessments use
Exchanging the reinforcement contingencies for two topographically different responses. (see pg. 512 to learn how it is implemented).
Contingency reversal
Serving the same function or purpose; different topographies of behavior are functionally equivalent if they produce the same consequences.
Functional equivalent interventions
