Platelet Dysfunction Flashcards

1
Q

Intravenous Immune Globulin

IVIG

A

Platelet Dysfunction
$$$
MOA
- Quickly increase the platelet count
- For Thrombocytopenia: Modulation or blockade of Fc receptors on Macrophages. The IgG molecules bind through their Fc region to Fcγ receptors on macrophages and via intracellular signaling mediate inflammation or immune effector functions.
INDICATIONS
- *immune thrombocytopenia
ADE
- Acute: Headache, flushing, chills, myalgia, wheezing, tachycardia, lower back pain, nausea, and hypotension.
BLACK BOX WARNING
- Acute Renal Failure due to high sucrose content
- Allergic Reaction in individuals with IgA deficiency
o Typically occurs after viral infection.

Q

Desmopressin (DDAVP)

A

Platelet Dysfunction
MOA
- Desmopressin is a synthetic arginine vasopressin (AVP) derivative used in hematology because it *increases serum levels of von Willebrand factor and clotting factor VIII.
INDICATIONS
- Used to treat bleeding episodes in VWD and Hemophilia A
- (Does not work for Hem B!)
ADE
- Risk of Decreasing serum osmolarity (due to hyponatremia) with CNS adverse reactions
o Desmopressin is a synthetic antidiuretic hormone analog; it will stimulate the kidney V2 receptor and increase water absorption.
