Q

Aspirin
Ibuprofen
Naproxen

A
  • non selective COX inhibitor
  • take aspirin (irreversibly inhibits COX1=decrease risk of blood clots)before you tak Ibuprofen (binds reversibly)
  • Reyes Syndrome (unique to Aspirin)=encephalopathy, hepatic dysfunction
  • COX1 (constitutional)-cytoprotective prostaglandins=protects gastric mucosa but increases platelet aggregation
  • inhibition leads to GI toxicity; decrease risk by concurrently using proton pump inhibitors (decrease acid in stomach)

Q

Celecoxib

A
  • selective COX2 inhibitor
  • COX-2 (inducible)=inflammatory prostaglandins=recruits inflammatory cells, sensitize skin pain receptors, cause fever
  • Inhibition=COX1 causes platelet aggregation and without balance, increase risk of cardiovascular events
