We arrived yesterday evening.
Our older son arrived this morning.
Φτάσαμε χτες βράδυ.
Ο μεγάλος γιος μας έφτασε σήμερα το πρωί.
He rented a car because he wants to go to Chania.
Νοίκιασε ενα αυτοκίνητο γιατί θέλει να πάει στα Χανιά.
We arrived yesterday evening with our younger son and our younger daughter.
Φτάσαμε χθες το βράδυ με **τον** μικρό γιο μας και με **την** μικρή κόρη μας.
Our older son arrived this morning.
He’s going to Chania tomorrow.
Ο μεγάλος γιος μας έφτασε σήμερα το πρωί.
Πάει στα Χανιά αύριο.
Note how they say ‘Πάει στα Χανιά αύριο’ and not ‘Θα πάει στα Χανιά αύριο’. Thus, the Greek language, in a fashion similar to English, may use the present tense when actually talking about a future action.
Maria asks: ‘How many children do you have?’
(translate all, as is)
Four. Our oldest daughter lives in Athens.
Η Μαρία ρωτάει: «Πόσα παιδιά έχετε;»
Τέσσερα. Η μεγάλη κόρη μας μένει στην Αθήνα.
Our younger daughter needs some things
Η μικρή κόρη μας χρειάζεται μερικά πράγματα.
I would like an American newspaper.
Θα ήθελα μια αμερικανική εφημερίδα.
See you later.
Θα τα πούμε (αργότερα)
or
Τα λέμε (αργότερα).
So, ‘Θα τα πούμε’ means see you, and so you can add any time in the future after it: αύριο, το βράδυ…

Αγόρασα μια αμερικανική εφημερίδα και είδα μερικούς αμερικανούς φίλους.
My wife rented a car because we need a car.
Η γυναίκα μου νοίκιασε ένα αυτοκίνητο γιατί χρειαζόμαστε αυτοκίνητο.
Yesterday evening we went to a good restaurant.
We spoke Greek with:
* the waiter
* with our children
Χθες βράδυ πήγαμε σε ένα καλό εστιατόριο.
Μιλήσαμε Ελληνικά με:
* το σερβιτόρο
* τα παιδιά μας
Yesterday my wife rented a car and we went to Patras.
Χθες η γυναίκα μου νοίκιασε ένα αυτοκίνητο και πήγαμε στην Πάτρα.
We went with our younger son.
We stayed with friends and we went to a good restaurant.
Πήγαμε με τον μικρό γιο μας.
Μείναμε με φίλους και πήγαμε σε ένα καλό εστιατόριο.
γιος is a masculine word
εστιατόριο is a neuter word
We spoke Greek with:
* the waiter
* our younger son

ο μικρός γιος σας

Χρειαζόμαστε μερικές μέρες στην Πάτρα.
I would like to see the city.
Θα ήθελα να δω την πόλη.
The word “την” drops the final “ν” when it is followed by a word that starts with a consonant, except when the following consonant is a vowel, a diphthong, or certain consonants like κ, π, τ, ξ, ψ, μπ, ντ, γκ, τσ, τζ.
Our son lives in Chania.
Which son, the big one or the small one?
(‘son’ in the second sentence is in the nominative)
Ο γιος μας μένει στα Χανιά.
Ποιος γιος, ο μεγάλος ή ο μικρός;
We stayed a few days there.
Μείναμε μερικές μέρες εκεί.
We went to a restaurant and we spoke English with the waiter.
Πήγαμε σε ένα εστιατόριο και μιλήσαμε αγγλικά με τον σερβιτόρο.
NOTE:
An alternative term for σερβιτόρο is γκαρσόνι, the latter being more colloquial.
Did you go to Heraklion?
Πήγες/Πήγατε στο Ηράκλειο;
He wants to go there tomorrow.
Θέλει να πάει εκεί αύριο.
I’d like to see the city but I have a lot of work.
Θα ήθελα να δω την πόλη αλλά έχω πολλή δουλειά.
What will you do today?
I’ll be working. I have a lot of work now.
Τι θα κανεις/κάνετε σήμερα?
Θα δουλέψω. Έχω πολλή δουλειά τώρα.
Does he need a car?
We need a car.
Χρειάζεται αυτοκίνητο;
Χρειαζόμαστε αυτοκίνητο.
no article before ‘car’ because one is speaking about a car, generally, not a specific car.
I’d like to see a lot of things but I have a lot of work.
Really?
Yes, I have too much work.
