I’d like to make a phone call to a friend of mine.
Of course, the telephone is over there.
Hint: telephone is a neuter word in Greek.
Θα ήθελα να κάνω ένα τηλέφωνο σε έναν φίλο μου.
βέβαιος το τηλέφωνο είναι εκεί.
τηλέφωνο is neuter
It was the wrong number.
Ήταν λάθος αριθμός.
I will try again
Θα προσπαθήσω ξανά.
This time it was the right number.
Αυτή τη φορά ήταν ο σωστός αριθμός.
Before, it was the wrong number.
Πριν, ήταν λάθος αριθμός.
NOTE: no indefinite article, because a ‘wrong number’ is not a specific number. In flashcard 8, there IS an indefinite article, because the ‘right number’ is a specific number.
It was the right number but my friend wasn’t home.
Ήταν ο σωστός αριθμός, αλλά ο φίλος μου δεν ήταν σπίτι.
I’ll try again later.

Hint: in Greek, post office is neuter gender.

you can also say ‘Πώς είναι’

( hint: not the ‘τι κάνει’ form )

Conjugate ‘to work’ in the present tense.
He works at the university.
Δουλεύει στο Πανεπιστήμιο.
in terms of etymology, think:
παν - as in pan-American
επιστήμη - meaning science, whence epistemology
Πανεπιστήμιο - the place where all the sciences are studied
And he has a (female) friend.
Και έχει μια φίλη.
His (female) friend works for IBA.
Η φίλη του δουλεύει για την IBA.
In January they’re going to New York.
Τον Ιανουάριο πάνε στη Νέα Υόρκη.
In February, the weather is often bad.
Τον Φεβρουάριο κάνει συχνά άσχημο καιρό.
I prefer to travel when the weather is fine.
Προτιμώ να ταξιδεύω όταν κάνει καλό καιρό.
In January a trip to America is less expensive.
Τον Ιανουάριο ένα ταξίδι στην Αμερική είναι λιγότερο ακριβό.

Clarification as to why the stress point in on the υ rather than the ε:
ευ in the word δουλεύω is a diphthong.
A diphthong is a combination of two vowels pronounced as a single sound.
In Modern Greek, when a diphthong is present, and the stress falls on the second vowel of the combination, the accent is placed on the second vowel (in this case, the υ).
Our daughter is at the University of Athens.
Η κόρη μας είναι στο πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών.
This time we’re going to London without them. (the kids)
Αυτή τη φορά πάμε στο Λονδίνο χωρίς αυτά.
They’re going to stay here with their friends.
Θα μείνουν εδώ με τους φίλους τους.
London is a big city.
(in Greek, London is a neuter word)
Το Λονδίνο είναι μια μεγάλη πόλη.
London is an interesting city.
Το Λονδίνο είναι μια ενδιαφέρουσα πόλη.
I used to work there.
Δούλευα εκεί.
I don’t like going there when the weather is bad.
Δεν μου αρέσει να πηγαίνω εκεί όταν κάνει άσχημο καιρό.
NOTE:
‘πηγαίνω’ is used instead of ‘πάω’ because we’re talking about a general thing, not an actual situation.
Where does your husband work now?
(speaking familiarly)
Πού δουλεύει τώρα ο άντρας σου;
I need to make a phone call to my daughter.
Πρέπει να κάνω ένα τηλέφωνο στην κόρη μου.
Say that you think that you know her number.
(translate the above as its)
Πέστε ότι νομίζετε ότι ξέρετε τον αριθμό της.
αριθμός is a masculine word
NOTE
to avoid making the sentence sound, potentiially, heavy, by using ότι twice, you could replace the first one with πως, another way to say ‘that’:
Πέστε πως νομίζετε ότι ξέρετε τον αριθμό της.
NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH πώς, WHICH MEANS ‘what’.
