Histroy (A question) Flashcards
Introduiction?
reword the question
opposing: Source C thinks this about q but source b thinks this
similair: Both suggest this did have anm effect but they aghve differnent ideas about the effect
Contnent comparison reralting to tone?
point-by-point
- SOurce C is useful for evaluating (element of the question) as there is a clear tone of…
Souirce B also ephasises this point as it has a tone of…. [or whereas the source of Tone B emphasies how much it disagrees with Source C
Similiarities in content?
Both souce and B think this. Source C says’…..’ and source B says this ‘…..’ Source C thinks this becuase [ 2 facts/bit of context/OK] and B also agrees because [ bit of context]
Link in tone- if the same- this tone si confirmed in Source C with language like..
If tone si different- Although they both accept this point Source C is clearly angry about it shown by the tone of contempt
Differences in content?
Similair aspect (good if its mentioned ibn both sources- can't just have 1 paragraph about one source) -completely/ partially opposing views on point Support by evaluating provenance- Source C is written by... so you would expect them to say...whereas Source B is written by... so yuo would expect this. However, Source C is a letter so you have to consider thye might be more expressive as they are writing to one perosn [link in tone] whereas Source C is a publci document
Evalaution in provenance- how reliable is it
Author- who it is, what party, perosnal realationships to any politican, how the date/type affects hwat they are saying
Type- letter (intended for 1 person to see), poster, propoganda for election campaign, diary (perosnal thoughts)
Date- very important- what was happening that relates to the source- how does this affect other provenance points,[near general election]
Purpose- why are the writing it- how does this infleucne what they are saying
What can you use the purpose of both sources as?
similaity/difference
Judgement?
-don’t need quoting
-don’t need much context/OK
Overall, it is clear - agree or disagree with question
So although both sources are useful as evidance for…
Source C is more useful for evidance as it support this…[or more focused on the question-provides more useful information] especially as it was written by… which is more relaible than SOurce B which is…
Disocrimnate agaisnt one
Link provenance to either similairty or a differnece?
they both says this [evidance from source]
Source B was wriiten by this so he qwould think this and this is confirmed in Source C which was written by ..who is a also a memeber fot he Labour party so committed to socialsitic policies.
What not to do?
Don’t assert- don’t make a statement about the question and don’t back it up with a bit of context/evaluate provenance
BUT don’t narrate- don’t out too much context in
Don’t describe the source- don’t explain what its saying pick out the relevant bits that you can DIRECTLY compare to a point thats also mentioned in the other source
CAN’T go on about 1 source for even half a paragraph and then the toher half about the other source becuase even if you’ve vaguely connected a similair point you have to make it clear in the first line of each paragraph what point you’re making ans then alternate for each thing- provenance e.g. tone, content you’re relating the point to
Each point has to be..?
