History (B question) Flashcards
Intro?
group the sources
try and do it into 2 groups
obvious cross-refernce group -incldue it
1 seperate one- make it clear
Group the sources that you’re putting on each side…?
at the start of the paragraph
1) make clear what 1st point you are making (probably going to be the main reason you’ve grouped them together-whether they’re for or agaisnt the focus of the question
2) put a quote that suppors it
3) back up with quite a bit (few facts for each source) of supporting OK/Context
4) Evaluating provenance- author, type, date, purpose
How do you comapre the nature and tone between sources that you’ve grouped together?
nature/tone- don’t focus on a lot but if different- the nature fo source D is different to soruce A as although they both fundamentally agree it was due to Asquith Soruce D is critical/harsh about it [language example] whereas Soruce A is more sympathetic. Neverthless Source D is written with the prupsoe fo …. which limits the source is some ways
if the point yo are makign about two fot e soruces in the same group are literally the same (very similair point for the SAME REASON)..?
put a quote in to say, likewise source C says [quote] for the same raosn of
put in OK/context to support both sources
(DON’T REPEAT YOURSELF)
Within groups even if they are both for or agiasnt the focus of the question they can be for..?
differnent reasons
e.g. soruce C is agaisnt tarriff reofrm but becuase it would lose Conseravties support=- poor people favoured free trade because ti meant proseperity, liwksie Source B is agisnt it but because of his bitterness with the part rather than his concern for the poor
Continually by explaining limitations fo thr sources by evalauting differnet provenace you are..?
discriminating (very important in b part)
If one source stands out then..?
On the other hand Source E argues its becuase of this- context/ok
-evaluation of provenance
If its arguing for an unmentioned reason out it in another paragraph
If the stand-put source is more on one side of the groupings..?
entwine it
connect it to a group
‘To an extent Source E does agree with Sources A and D that it was partially Asquith’s fault but more argue [this reaosn] had a bigger impact on the decisison
CROSS REFERENCE
With cross-referenecing..? [ 2 ways]
1) Lik it with another group or even just one source (the war comittee is also mentioned in Source A- that might be all you can do)
2) Link it to another source- this point is opposed/agreed/mentioned in Source A but might be able to explain it- if tis directly linked to the question e.g. Source E thinks the impact f the war was the main reason becuase…. and Similairly in Soruce B although blames Asquith puts considerable blame on the war due to….However Source E is limited by the author…
This makes another group but TRY to keep the sources grouped adn cross-reference by linking sources to a group and cross-refernce but onyl make a new group clear if 2 of the sources are cleatly related to eachther (puts emphasis on a reason you haven’t mentioned before) that directly relates to the focus of the question
CAN CROSS-REFERENCE WITH ANOTHER SOURCE IN THE SAME GROUP
Judgement for a b question? [2 ways]
1) In assesing Sources A-E it is clear most blame….. due to these reaosns although other factors mention include …[Source A and E] and ….. [Source D]
2) While to some extent most sources think this [focus of the question] is the most important factor others range from … [Soruce D] and … [Sources A and E} so overall this can’t be the only/most important factor
IF there is one source that is clearly stongly fo or against thr question then..?
Source C provides the strongest evidance for the assertion of the question because…
