Distributive shock Flashcards
Distributive shock
occurs when the intravascular volume pools in peripheral blood vessels leading to inadequate perfusion
Septic shock
organ dysfunction caused by dysregulated host response associated with hypotension despite adequate fluid resuscitation and presence of perfusion abnormalities
Nursing management of IVs during septic shock
remove and reinsert into alternative site
Treatment of septic shock
antibiotic therapy, fluid replacement
Neurogenic shock
loss of vascular sympathetic tone and subsequent unopposed parasympathetic response
s/s of neurogenic shock
dry/warm skin, hypotension, bradycardia, sensory and motor deficits, hypothermia
Treatment of neurogenic shock
ABCs, stabilize spinal cord, HOB at 30 degrees, restore sympathetic tone
Where to keep MAP at during neurogenic shock
85-90 to make sure there is perfusion to spinal cord
Anaphylactic shock
severe allergic reaction that causes widespread vasodilation and capillary permeability
Defining characteristics of anaphylactic shock (need 2+)
respiratory compromise, reduced BP, GI distress, skin/mucosal/tissue irritation, cardiovascular compromise
Medical management of anaphylactic shock
remove causative agent, administer meds to restore vascular tone, fluid management from massive fluid shifts
