Diagnostic Procedures - Neuro Flashcards
What is the initial procedure of choice
CT
What do CTs show
fractures and blood
What do MRIs show
shearing, infarction, ischemia
PET scans
detect additional areas of brain dysfunction not found on CT, helpful following recovery from TBI
Transcranial doppler
non-invasive tool for measuring cerebral blood flow velocity in the circle willis, reflect pressure gradient
Evoked potentials
recordings of the cerebral electrical impulses generated in response to visual, auditory, or somatosensory stimulation. detects lesions in the cerebral cortex, spinal cord, brainstem, thalamus
Electroencephalography
recording of the electrical activity of the brain using electrodes attached to the scalp
Cerebral angiography
injection of the electrical activity of the brain using electrodes attached to the scalp
Lumbar puncture
needle placed in the subarachnoid space (L4-L5), CSF is removed for analysis
