Disease Flashcards
What is the difference between communicable and non communicable diseases
communicable can be transmitted between individuals by pathogens whereas non communicable cannot be transmitted
how can your body be more susceptible to other diseases
because the immune system becomes weakened by disease so less likely to fight off other diseases
what are the 4 types of pathogens
viruses bacteria fungi and protists
what 3 diseases are spread by the pathogen bacteria
Cholera
Tuberculosis
Stomach ulcers
what disease is spread by protist
Malaria
what disease is spread by virus
Ebola
what disease is spread by fungi
Chalara ash dieback
what a the symptoms and ways of spread and prevention of cholera
diarrhoea
contamination of water
clean water
what a the symptoms and ways of spread and prevention of tuberculosis
coughing lung damage
through air
avoid crowded places good hygeine
what a the symptoms and ways of spread and prevention of malaria
damage red blood cells
animal vectors mosquitos
use mosquitos nets and insect repellent
what a the symptoms and ways of spread and prevention of stomach uclers
stomach pains vomiting
oral transmission
clean water hygienic
what a the symptoms and ways of spread and prevention of ebola
Hemorrhagic fever
bodily fluids
isolation sterillising
what a the symptoms and ways of spread and prevention of chalara ash dieback
leaf loss
carried in air by wind when diseased trees moved
removing infected trees replant restrict
what is the lytic pathway
virus attaches to host cell and injects genetic material
using host cells proteins and enzymes it replicates genetic material
produces the components of new virus
assembles and host cell split open releasing viruses to infect more cells
what is the lysogenic pathway
virus injects genetic material into into host cell and it gets incorporated into genome of the host cell
genetic material gets replicated w host DNA every-time host cell divides
- remains dormant
eventually a trigger causes genetic material to leave the genome and enter lytic pathway
