14
Q

what is the lytic pathway

A

virus attaches to host cell and injects genetic material

using host cells proteins and enzymes it replicates genetic material
produces the components of new virus

assembles and host cell split open releasing viruses to infect more cells

15
Q

what is the lysogenic pathway

A

virus injects genetic material into into host cell and it gets incorporated into genome of the host cell

genetic material gets replicated w host DNA every-time host cell divides
- remains dormant

eventually a trigger causes genetic material to leave the genome and enter lytic pathway

16
Q

what is chlamydia how is it spread and how can it be reduced

A

it is a bacteria pathogen that has not much symptoms but infertility in men and women

can be spread through body fluids
prevented by contraception and screening and avoiding

17
Q

what is HIV and how is it spread and prevented

A

virus that kills white blood cells destroying immune response

spread via body fluids

prevented by contraception avoid sharing needles and medication

18
Q

what can HIV lead to

A

AIDS - when the immune system eventually fails and becomes vulnerable to infections of other pathogens
