circulatory system revision sheet unsure questions Flashcards
Provide an explanation as to how blood pressure within the arteries is maintained
Due to the pressure from ventricular systole in the blood, the artery will expand. The smooth muscle in the artery wall will contract to push blood forward. This blood will not travel backwards as semi-lunar valves prevent it.
explain why blood pressure within the veins is not affected by ventricular systole and diastole
Blood is passed through the capillary network which slows down blood flow.
describe how small molecules such as sugars and amino acids move from the capillaries to the tissue fluid
Small molecules can move across in and out of blood capillaries through facilitated diffusion
describe how tissue fluid is taken into capillaries at the venous end
Through the lymphatic system, tissue fluid moves into the capillary wall through osmosis which is collected by the lymphatic system
