scruple

A

scruple [ˈskrupəl]
(MW) an ethical (道德的) consideration orprinciple that inhibits(抑制) action:QUALM
[衍] scrupulous [ˈskrupjələs] (a) “謹慎小心的”。
They seem to haveno scruples (= qualms) about distorting thetruth.
用法上常用 have no scruples/qualms about “做壞事”。注意形容詞 scrupulous 的解釋,由於從名詞 “良心不安”過來,最基本的解釋是 “道德的”:scrupulous(a) having moral integrity: acting in strict regardfor what is considered right or proper, 但 GRE 最愛考 scrupulous 的第二個意思 “謹慎小心的”。
