Xtrapolis - Electrics Flashcards
What is considered high voltage equipment?
Pantograph Lightning arrestor 2 high speed circuit breakers Traction converter Auxillary inverter
Where are the pantographs located and how are they activated?
2 end of a trailer car and automatically when the key is in the on position
What is the job of the lightning arrestor?
Protect the train from the overhead from over voltage
What does the high speed circuit breakers do?
Protect the overheads from the train
What does the traction converter do?
Converts 1500vdc using 3 phase variable ac and distributes power to the traction motors dependent on the position of the master controller
What is the components of the low voltage output?
Auxillary inverter 400/220 v ac system 110v dc system 24 v ac/dc system Batteries Air conditioning system
What is connected to 400v ac?
Battery charger
Air compressors
Traction cooling fan
HVAC
What happens if one siv fails?
No 1 air con works only
No 1 air compressor works only
Saloon lighting works
Both traction inverter cooling fans work
What are the 3 110v distribution lines?
Permanent low voltage line
Prepared low voltage line
Prepared low voltage and cab operator line
What is permanent low voltage line?
Originating from the batteries, it powers:
Pantograph electric motor
Step lights
Fluorescent cab light
What is prepared low voltage and cab operative?
Master controller key is on and the panto is raised powering: Pantographs Status and fault lights Traction control Brake control Door control Safety loop Comms Saloon lights emergency and normal
What does prepared low voltage line mean?
Master controller key is removed but pantograph, marker lights, doors and saloon lights stay in the settings they were before master controller key is removed (service retention)
What is the low voltage 24v system running on DC?
That is the 24v system that runs things like Headlights (low beam) Drivers seat Speedo Wiper washers Gauge lights Battery voltmeter Mad button Cab spotlight Cctv brake indicator lights
What runs on 24v ac?
High beams
Cctv in passenger saloon area
How long will the batteries power the train?
1 hour
What powers the train during normal operation, batteries or battery charger?
Battery charger as it powers 110v system
What de energises the safety loop?
Trip is set Hand pilot valve set Emergency stop button not pressed Vicers Master controller in emergency Key in another cab Main res pressure drops below 580kpa Brake pipe pressure drops below 300KPA Auto vigilance button times out 110v is energised Circuit breakers 23Q1 23Q2
What two positions does the safety loop rescue switch have?
Normal and rescue
How long until a saloon door will close automatically?
1 minute
What doors will remain open for a passenger with special needs and for how long?
Doors 1,2,5,6 and for 10 minutes
How many times will a door attempt to close when there is an obstruction?
4 times at 3 second intervals
What doors have an external release function?
Motor cars - 1,2,5,6
Trailer cars - 2 and 5
What doors have internal emergency release?
Doors 2 and 5 on both motor and trailer cars beneath the DERs
At what speed canโt the DER be operated?
5km/h
If the DER is accessed, can we obtain traction power?
If already moving we can continue to do so, once stopped we will not be able to gain traction power unless der is reset
For the speed threshold train lined, what functions donโt work unless we are beneath .5km
Uncouple button
Saloon doors
Resetting brake pipe after safety loop de energises (comeng train rescue)
Resetting trip
How long do the red marker lights, cab lighting and emergency lighting stay on after stable?
15 minutes and then it turns off
In what scenario would we turn emergency settings on the saloon lights?
To conserve battery power
What circuit breakers de energise the safety loop?
23q1 and 23q2
What circuit breaker would you trip to do functionalities in the centre cabs?
22q6
What is the Job of the TCU?
To determine how much 3 phase power goes to the traction motors regarding load, speed and demand
