What is the object of single line working?

A

When one line of a double line system is closed to normal traffic due to repair or an obstruction, a system of train running term single line working may be introduced

What information is provided by the pilot?

A
  • Exact location of where single line working is operational
  • Driver must be allowed to read the pilots forms
  • The pilot will authorise the driver to pass the fixed signal at stop controlling the entrance to the single line section.
  • The pilot will inform driver whether the train will be despatched or accompanied by the pilot
  • When two or more trains are to follow in the same direction, the pilot will dispatch all trains to proceed in turn and accompany the last train, travelling in the cab with the driver
