When a train is stopped in the section, what is the drivers responsibility?
- Ensure you’re not derailed
- Secure Train
- Contact TC
- State location and length of train
- Make PA announcement
When fault finding doesn’t rectify the fault, what does the driver do?
Contact TC Declare train disabled Advise TC if the pilot is on the train Complete and Dictate DRA to TC Not life the train until DRA is cancelled
What is the process for relief arrangements for single line working as a disabled train driver?
- Carry our full cab unattended
- Take DRA, portable radio and necessary red have signals
- Proceed to 500 metres in direction of relief train or first fixed signal at stop protecting the train if within 500m
- Display a red hand signal
- Inform TC that the train is protected
- If pilot is on board, the pilot remains on the train
What is the additional step when doing relief arrangements for the disabled train?

When the pilot is on the disabled train, what is the authority to enter the section?
Train Authority and Verbal authorisation from the controlling signaller
What is the speed of the relief train entering a single line section when the pilot is on the disabled train?
Reduced speed cautiously, stopping 2km from the disabled train and then proceeding at 15km/h to the protection point
What is the speed of the relief train when travelling in the normal direction of single line with a pilot?
- Authorisation from the pilot to enter
- Travel on fixed signal aspects at reduced speed cautiously

- Carry out 5cs
- Pilot to be transferred to the front of the combined train
- Permission from TC to move the combined trains

Pick up the driver from the disabled train 500meters from the disabled train and complete the 5c’s
When are written instructions distributed to the driver?
When the pilot has dispatched the train into the section that has now become disabled
What will the written instructions state?
The DRA contents along with which end the disabled train will be removed
Do you need a train authority along with written instructions?
No just written instructions because the pilot is still at the entrance and will be your authority to enter the section
What must a driver do when receiving written instructions?
Read the instructions and ensure accuracy and understanding
Sign the signallers written instructions as proof of receipt
What must happen if the pilot is at the wrong end of the section?
The pilot must be transferred to the correct end to authorise and accompany the driver
What is the speed when relief driver is entering the single line section without a pilot?
Reduced speed cautiously, stopping 2km from the disabled train and then proceeding at 15km/h to the protection point
When running on wrong line single line working, how would you pass over a level crossing?
It MUST be protected by a hand signaller who has activated the level crossing, the driver travelling wrong line must
Observe all right hand signal
Use whistle frequently
Pass over cautiously not exceeding 15km/h
