Siemens - Electrics Flashcards
What is the function of a surge arrester?
Protects the train from overhead faults
What is the purpose of a high speed circuit breaker?
Protects overhead equipment from the train
What can a maintenance fault light and either Unit 1 or Unit 2 illuminated mean in the drivers cab?
That it could be a Static inverter is defective
Unit 1 means the trailer car on your 3 car set
Unit 2 means the trailer car on the rear 3 car set
When the maintenance fault and unit 1 or 2 is illuminated, what is the drivers duty?
To go to the trailer car affected and check the fault panel to identify if it is a static inverter or not
What circuit breakers activate the emergency brake?
Safety loop Auto coupler Friction brake and monitoring Emergency brake valves Cab manned
Door control train lines
When does the safety loop open?
Main res below 600KPA Critical fault in brake control unit Coupler fails Over speed Vicers Trip Emergency stop button Master controller in emergency Dead mans switch
What are the main components of the vigilance system?
Button
Buzzer
Indicator light
VAR - Vigilance activation relay for
How is the safety loop energised?
Battery charger which energises the safety loop
What is the Batteries used for on a Siemens?
Train start up and loss of overhead
What is each saloon door fitted with?
Door control module and a triangle key isolating switch to isolate that door
What is a D.E.R?
Door emergency release located to the left hand side of every door
At what speed can a D.E.R be operated?
Any speed
What happens when the D.E.R is operated?
Der indicator in the active cab will illuminate and an audible buzzer will sound, PEI will activate
How do you reset the emergency brake?
Placed into 0 after the train becomes stationary
What happens when a PEI is activated?
When a passenger operates a PEI anywhere on the cab a warning tone will sound in the active driving cave and the emergency intercom button will flash
What happens when the driver presses the emergency intercom button?
DDU will activate and the cctv to view the area
What happens when a DDA button is pushed in the saloon area?
DDR button on the audio panel will flash five times and stay illuminated until cancelled
What is the function of the vicers activation relay?
It applies the emergency brake if the vicers times out
How do you reset the vicers?
Allow the train to come to a stand
Put master controller to 0
Leave it in coast for 10 seconds
Press vicers acknowledgement button
What happens if you can’t reset the trip?
Isolate the trip key switch
When should we isolate the vicers key switch?
The fault indicator remains illuminated
Fault that cannot be reset and train is held
What is run off 400vdc?
Battery charger
Air compressor
Traction control module
HVAC
GPO outlets
When by passing the trip or safety loop via key switch, what button must be pressed at regular intervals when flashing?
Mad button
How do you do a vicers test?
Reverser in forward Trip down Press vicers button Look for a reduction in brake pipe Vicers acknowledgement flashes and fault lights come on and off
When safety loop is bypassed, what equipment is not working?
Deadman’s devices Over speed relay Main res pressure relay BCU major event relay Coupler fault relay Holding brake relay
How does the electricity get supplied to the traction motors?
Overheads provide 1500vdc to the traction container converting 1500vdc into 3 phase variable AC
How does electric get supplied and converted to the SIVS?
1500vdc is supplied directly to the SIVS which is converted into 400vac This then supplied power to the battery charger, air compressor, traction control module and HVACS
Name what’s in the high voltage container?
2 high speed circuit breakers and a grounding switch
Name the roof mounted equipment on a M car
Panto
Antenna
Surge arrestor
HVAC
What voltages do the SIVS produce?
110v DC by way of battery charger
400v AC
240v AC
