Comeng Faults - Brake Component Faults Flashcards
If the brake pipe does not charge after the BVIC is open and handle in release, what is the drivers first task?
Check main res to brake control, if it is closed, open it and if it is open, close it
After closing main res to brake controller, what is the drivers duties?
Trip EP circuit breaker
Go from emergency to run and release several times to clear the air from the brake controller
Reopen main res to brake control
Try recharge the brake pipe
If step 2 of the charging valve procedure doesn’t work, what is the drivers duties?
Leave the brake in step 7 and BVIC open
Go to another cab and open the BVIC and charge from the other cab
Cut out in the second cab (apply and isolate) and look to ensure the brake pipe is charging from the lead cab via the gauges in the second cab
What needs to happen if all remedies fail to open the charging valve?
Competent employee is needed to charge your brake pipe from another motor car by opening a second BVIC and closing it once it has recharged
What does it mean if the lockout magnet valve is defective in the closed position?
It means the automatic air brake will not come on and fail to allow a brake pipe reduction
What is the procedure for a lockout magnet valve defective in the closed position?
Brake handle into emergency
Contact train control
Run on EP
No faster then 15km/h into a siding
What is the effect of the lockout magnet valve defective in the open position?
Simultaneous application of automatic air and EP/rheostatic brake
What damage can be done with the lockout magnet valve defective in the open position ?
Wheel flats
Skidding
Rough stops
What is the procedure to remedy a lock out magnet valve stuck in the open position?
Run on the air
With a loss of overhead power and a driver needs to brake immediately, what would the driver be required to do and why?
Emergency application due to the instant loss of EP/rheo combined with the delay in the automatic air brake applying
What must happen when you cannot reset the emergency application valve (hand pilot valve)
Turn the red EC and run on the secondary safety circuit
What is the consequences of a release prevention valve failing?
Moving brake handle towards release will slightly recharge the brake pipe but fully release the brakes
With a defective release prevention valve, what should you do?
Drive using EP submit a tmm
How would you tell the difference between a leak in the brake pipe and a defective regulating valve?
Charge the brake pipe and close the BVIC
If air depletes it is a ruptured brake pipe
If it stays at a pressure less then 550kpa it is the regulating valve
If the brake pipe pressure doesn’t fall after the BVIC is closed what is the next steps?
Brake into emergency
Open BVIC
Handle to release
If it does not charge to 550kpa the regulating valve is defective
