Viruses and Exremophiles Flashcards
1
Q
Lysogenic Cycle
A
Virus DNA becomes host DNA (provirus), virus is replicated in each new cell and continues on for long time.
2
Q
Lytic Cycle
A
Virus uses host to create copies of itself, host breaks and releases new viruses
3
Q
What are the three types of Extremophiles?
A
Thermophiles, Acidophiles, Halophiles
4
Q
What are Thermophiles?
A
Live in hot springs and deep sea vents, endure temps over 100°C. Ex. Archaea Methanopyrus
5
Q
What are Acidophiles?
A
Live in volcanic craters and mine drainage lakes, endure pH lower than 3. Ex. Archaea Picrophilus
6
Q
What are Heliophiles?
A
Live in salt lakes and inland seas, endure salt concentrations above 20%. Ex. Archaea Halococcus
