Making a Standard Solution Flashcards
1
Q
How to make a Standard Solution from a solid?
A
- Pour required mass of solid into beaker and add 1/4 total volume of H2O.
- Pour into volumetric flask, and thoroughly rinse out beaker with water and pour in as well.
- Add water until bottom of meniscus lines up with calibration mark.

Q
How to make a Standard Solution by dilution of a stock solution?
A
- Calculate volume of concentrated reagent required
- Add 1/2 of final volume of pure H2O to volumetric flask
- Measure required volume of stock sol. using pipette
- Transfer stock sol. slowly to flask while mixing
- Add pure H20. Use medicine dropper and meniscus finder to set bottom of men. on calibration line.
- Stopper flask and mix by inverting several times.
