Unit 1 Part 3 Chemical Reactions Review Flashcards
(6 cards)
What is the kinetic molecular theory?
All matter is made up of particles in continuous random motion.
How does the kinetic molecular theory relate to gases?
A gas has widely separated molecules in constant, chaotic motion
How does the kinetic molecular theory relate to liquids?
Molecules within a liquid are able to move in a more or less chaotic fashion. Allows liquids to be poured, and flow to take the shape of their container.
How does the kinetic molecular theory relate to solids
Particles of a solid are not free to move. The molecules within a solid may undergo vibrational motion.
Under what circumstances would collisions not result in a chemical reaction?
The collision–reaction theory states that particles must collide with correct orientation and at sufficient speed to react. Reactions will not occur when the orientation is not correct, and/or when the speed is not sufficient.
How to balance equations
Metals, polyatomic ion groups, non-metals, hydrogen oxygen last
