Plant Kingdom Flashcards
Non Vascular plants
Bryophytes: mosses, liverworts, hornworts. No true vascular system, no roots
Seedless Vascular Plants
Formed forests 350 mil. yrs ago, most now extinct: club mosses, horsetails, ferns.
Seed producing Vascular Plants
Two groups are Gymnosperms (naked seed) and Angiosperms (flowering plants)
Gymnosperms
Cone bearing plants: pines, firs, cedars. Evergreen, can photosynthesize all the time. Reproduce using cones, male produce pollen, female produce egg
Angiosperms
Flower producing plants. Produce pollen but seeds created inside fruit. Deciduous trees and all flowering plants. Some have separate male+female flowers, others have both within one plant. Two main types, Monocots + Dicots
What three groups is the plant kingdom made of?
Non-vascular, Seedless vascular, Seed producing vascular
