What is arteriorsclerosis obliterans?
A
- AKA peripheral arterial disease
- Thickening, hardening, and evntual narrowing and occlusion of arteries

What happens as a result of PAD?
A
- Ischemia and subsequent ulceration of the affected tissues
- Affected areas may become necrotic, gangrenous, and require amputation

Risk factors for PAD
A
- Age
- Diabetes
- Sex (male > female)
- Hypertension
- High serum cholesterol and LDL
- Obesity
- Sedentary
- Impaired glucose tolerance
- Smoking

Clinical presentation for pts needing amputation w/ PAD
A
- 45+ y/o
- Smokes
- Intermittent claudication that produces cramps and pain in the affected areas
- Lack of hair
- Lack of pulses
