What is Erb’s Palsy?
A
An upper brachial plexus injury that usually results from a difficult birth

Which muscles are usually affected w/ Erb’s palsy?
A
Muscles in the shoulder and elbow supplied by C5 and C6
- Rotator cuff
- Deltoid
- Brachialis
- Coracobrachialis
- Biceps brachii

How will the patient present w/ Erb’s palsy?
A
- “Waiter’s tip” deformity
- Loss of shoulder function, elbow flexion, forearm supination, and the hand in a pinch grip

Goal of PT w/ Erb’s palsy
A
Assist w/ overall strength and function during recovery (nerve regeneration occurs at a constant speed

What is Klumpke’s palsy?
A
Injury to the C7, C8, and T1 spinal nerves
- Presents w/ flexion and supination at the elbow, wrist extension, hyperextension of the MCP joints, flexion of the IP joints
