Indications for TSA

Answer 1

• Severe GH degenerative joint disease
• Pain and limited ROM d/t OA
• RA
• Avascular necrosis
• Fx
• RC arthropathy
• Failed conservative management

Question 2

Clinical presentation for pts required for TSA

Answer 2

• Impaired ROM
• Lack independence w/ functional mobility and ADLs
• Severe pain (unremitted w/ failed conservative treatment)
• Usually 55-70 y/o from OA
• 40-50 from dislocation or avascular necrosis

Question 3

Labs/imaging for TSA

Answer 3

• X-ray
• MRI/CT scan for muscles

Question 4

Neer shoulder protocol

Answer 4

• Isometric exercise ~3 weeks post-op
• PROM/AAROM 6 weeks

Question 5

ROM precautions initially post-op

Answer 5

• No IR
• No ER beyond 35-40 during first 2-3 weeks
