Clinical presentation for L3 SCI

Answer 1

• Partial innervation of gracilis, iliopsoas, QL, rec fem, and sartorius
• Full use of UE and hip flexion, adduction, and knee extension

Question 2

Possible additional findings w/ L3 SCI

Answer 2

• Sexual dysfunction
• Non-reflexive bladder
• Need for a bowel program
• Flaccid paralysis below level of lesion
• Risk for pain, UTI, muscle contractures, and pressure sores

Medical management of L3 SCI

Answer 3

• IV methylprednisolone to control the amount of secondary damage and improve neuro outcome

PT management of L3 SCI

• TLSO for bracing initially
• ROM, strengthening
• Endurance activities
• Bed mobility
• balance training
• Transfers
• Gait training
• KAFO or AFO one pt has strength to use crutches
