Training methods Flashcards
What is continuous training?
Low intensity exercise for long periods of time without rest intervals.
What are 3 physiological benefits of continuous training?
Improves aerobic energy system, improves cardiovascular endurance, improves respiratory system.
What is fartlek training?
Continuous training with varied paces.
What are the benefits of fartlek training?
Improves aerobic system, improves anaerobic systems, improves recovery
What is interval training?
Training in periods of high intensity followed by lower intensity exercise for recovery.
What are the benefits of interval training?
Improves aerobic system, Improves power.
What is circuit training?
Performing a series of exercises by rotating around different stations.
What are the benefits of circuit training?
Can improve either anaerobic or aerobic energy systems, can be tailored to different sporting movements.
What is weight training?
Performing a series of resistance exercises with free or fixed weights.
What is a repetition?
The number of times an exercise movement is completed.
What is a set?
The number of cycles of repetitions.
What is a 1 rep max?
The maximum amount of weight a performer can use for one movement.
What are three benefits of weight training?
Increased muscular endurance, increased muscular strength, muscular hypertrophy.
What is PNF?
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation is a stretch and contract exercise.
What is the benefit of PNF?
Increased flexibility and the hip joint.
